Gov. Godswill Akpabio
There is fire on the mountain for Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State as the 2015 elections draws nearer.
This premise, is coming from his insatiable hunger and ambition to continue his political career as a senator in the Senate.
Although Akpabio is yet to conclude his tenure as Governor, he is already eyeing the Senate, an ambition which has been generating mixed feelings among his people since he insinuated it in a political gathering several months back.
In recent times, developments between President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Governor Akpabio have simply not helped matters as far as Akpabio’s senatorial ambition is concerned, as it seemed the outgoing Governor has been used to achieve “some goals” and having done his job, he has now been left hanging like a clueless child.
This, observers of the state’s politics affirmed as a fact.
Governor Akpabio’s greed and insatiable hunger for power has overtime seen him pitching himself against some old and former war horses in his state who are now spoilt for war just to ensure that he does not get elected as a Senator.
Names such as former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, erstwhile Secretary to the State Government, Obong Umana Okon Umana, Aloysius Etok, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial district, John Akpanudoedehe, former senator representing Uyo and several other people have turned Governor Akpabio’s enemies due to his uncontrollable greed, dictatorial tendencies and chauvinism.
In recent times however, Governor Akpabio, like a old and tired lord of the manor, has been counting his loses and trying to realign himself with some of the popular old names in the politic of his state who he once tagged his enemies.
A source informed www.theoctopusnews.com of how Governor Akpabio recently attended an Akwa Ibom inner caucus stakeholders meeting in Abuja and prostrated to Obong Attah and others present begging them to forgive and forget the past. Our source, revealed that although prostrating is not a culture familiar with the average Akwa Ibom-man, Governor Akpabio nevertheless grovel and begged that his senatorial ambition be supported.
We were informed that it was a frustrated Governor Apkabio who left the meeting, as those in the gathering led by Obong Attah told him to his face that he was a small boy politician.
Some of Governor Akpabio’s crimes against his people include the relocation of the newly approved federal polytechnic from its original location to his backyard in Ukana, Essien Udim, Local Government Area, where he comes from, how he sold out on the people of Oron senatorial district who are supposed to produce the next Governor by allocating the slot to Eket senatorial district, how he favored his friends who are indigenes of other states ahead of those from Akwa Ibom and many more.
