FG Not Ready To End Strike-ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has stated that the Federal Government is not ready to end the ongoing strike by lecturers in public universities.
This position was declared by Olusiji Sowande, Lagos Zonal Coordinator of ASUU.
Sowande faulted the position of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige who disclosed that pertinent data required to engage the union were now being collected.
Sowande said the fact that the data were just being collected after several meetings with the union showed that the government’s team has been wasting time.
The senior lecturer dismissed the claim by the government that it cannot afford to pay the N110 billion for the revitalisation of the public universities. He argued that the government has spent billions bailing out private businesses and can also do the same for public universities.
The senior lecturer pointed out that the current ASUU strike goes beyond the contention of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
According to him, the failure of the government to release funds for the revitalisation of dilapidated infrastructure in public universities among other issues, prompted the strike.
