Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reacted to the emergence of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Jonathan congratulated Okonjo-Iweala on Monday, February 15, in a brief goodwill statement to express his joy and satisfaction with the former finance minister’s new office.
Jonathan said it is obvious that Iweala, by virtue of her vast experience and exposure, will drive the leadership of the organisation to strengthen trade relations among nations.
His message read: “I congratulate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who served as the Coordinating Minister for the Economy/Minister of Finance in my cabinet, on her emergence as the new Director-General of World Trade Organisation (WTO), after a long-drawn-out selection process.
“I am convinced that your leadership of the 164 nation-member organization will bring about improved trade relations and progress across the world’s different economic spectrum.”
Recall that Okonjo-Iweala was appointed the Director-General of the WTO at a special meeting of the General Council on Monday.
