The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has revealed that he has not been able to sleep since the killing of 11 military officers attached to Operation Whirl Stroke in Konshisha Local Government Area of the state.
Ortom made the disclosure during a visit of Bashir Magashi, Minister of Defence, and the Service Chiefs to the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi.
The soldiers were killed in Bonta village in an unprovoked attack by strange gunmen. According to the force on its Facebook page on Friday, April 9, the deceased, an officer, and 10 soldiers were on a routine operational task in the area when they were attacked.
While condoling with the president and the armed forces over the incident, the governor acknowledged the support and contributions of security agencies in ensuring peace in the state.
The governor also directed stakeholders in the affected local government to fish out that responsible for the tragic incident, asking traditional rulers and other parties to ensure that all the weapons taken from the slain soldiers are returned.
Ortom’s comment is coming as Bashir Magashi, the Minister of Defence, revealed President Muhammadu Buhari is sad over the recent killing of soldiers in Benue State.
Magashi made this disclosure on Thursday, April 14, during his visit to Governor Ortom in Makurdi, the state capital.
The minister added that although the development affected the Nigerian Army negatively, the forces should not be discouraged and lose hope.
