Governor Sim Fubara’s Situation Goes From Bad To Worse

The political crisis rocking Rivers State has taken another dimension with the Chairman of the state’s All Progressive Congress (APC), Tony Okocha asking Governor Siminalayi Fubara to either resign or be impeached.

Okocha’s position follows an invitation extended by Fubara to the pro-Wike members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Fubara’s invitation follows a Supreme Court ruling, not in his favour.

Describing the invitation as a “Greek gift”, Okocha who spoke at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday gave the governor an ultimatum to either resign or be impeached.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, key agenda items were outlined to Speaker Mathew Amaewhule. These included securing a venue for legislative sittings, addressing outstanding allowances, and discussing the state budget.

However, Okocha accused the governor of ignoring the rule of law and trying to exploit the crisis for his own gain.

“The Supreme Court judgment is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” Okocha declared.
