Ahead of the Bayelsa State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the name of Timipre Sylva from the candidates’ list.
Sylvia is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State.
The former minister’s name was removed from the amended lists of governorship candidates in the state for the November 11 election.
In the amended list uploaded on the commission’s website on Tuesday, Sylva’s and his running mate, were excluded due to the October 10 Federal High Court order that disqualified them from participating in the state governorship election.
In the list signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, column for the names of APC candidate and his running mate had the remark “court order”.
Recall that Justice Donatus Okorowo had disqualified Sylva and his running mate weeks ago, ruling that they have been sworn in twice and ruled for five years as governor of Bayelsa state. He stated that Sylva would breach the 1999 constitution as amended if allowed to contest again.
Okorowo held that if Sylva is allowed to run in the November poll, he would spend more than eight years in office as governor of the state.
