A group identified as the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has revealed why a former speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara recently defection back to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Recall that Dogara, a member of the APC had defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019. However, on Friday, July 24, he returned to the party he left years earlier.
Reacting to this development, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), said that APC may have lured Dogara into APC, using the propaganda of northern Christian VP to Tinubu.
CUPP, in a statement by its spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere said: “I hope they have not used the propaganda of northern Christian VP to Tinubu to lure my very good friend to the APC party that might not survive the upcoming intraparty 2023 crisis.
“PDP governor of Bauchi treated Dogara bad and sidelined him despite the game-changer vote from Dogaras Tafa Balewa federal constituency but joining the fractured APC with a weak leader, who is already losing respect among his party men may hang his political survival in the balance. We will be watching how all these play out.”
There are those who have linked Dogara’s defection to APC to President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war and 2023 presidential election.
The return of Dogara to the party was confirmed by the chairman of APC caretaker/convention planning committee and Governor of Yobe state, Mai Malla Buni.
Buni disclosed that Dogara had rejoined APC after they met with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
