Nelson Effiong, an Akwa Ibom Senator who represented Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
Effiong, was reportedly taken by three-armed hoodlums after they stormed his lounge, a popular sit-out along Oron Road in Uyo at about 9: 00pm on Sunday, September 5.
According to eyewitnesses, the men opening fire on customers in the lounge, after which the Senator was taken away.
Several customers at the bar were injured during the attack.
An eye witness said;
“He was later whisked away by the gunmen in a Toyota Camry car to an unknown destination.”
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Odiko Macdon also confirmed the development, saying;
“The command is in receipt of the report and investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter”.
