Henrientta Kosoko, Nollywood actress wife of celebrated actor Jide Kosoko, who died on Monday has been buried in her native home in Delta State, contrary to earlier plans to have her remains interred in Lagos.
The decision to change her burial site followed a brief family squabble between her husband and family who insisted her body must be returned to her roots as she was not married according to their customs and tradition.
The burial ceremony for late Nollywood actress, Henrietta Kosoko held in Delta state on Friday amidst tears and grief.
The actress died at a hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Monday, June 6, 2016, after a prolonged battle with diabetes. There was some family drama as her husband was planning for the burial in Lagos.
Just as the burial programme went underway an emissary from the late Henrietta’s family approached her grieving husband that she could not be buried in line with his wish since he did not observe the traditional marriage rites before her death.
Kosoko had proposed to have the actress buried in Atan Cemetery in Lagos. A family source told us: “Henrietta’s remains could no longer be buried in Lagos because of her family. Her siblings and other members of her family have insisted they’re will not burying her in Lagos. The issue didn’t go down well with him (Jide Kosoko) but there’s nothing he can do to resist. He had to go along with them.” There was however a compromise as Jide Kosoko’s already planned burial service was allowed to hold at a Catholic Church, Lagos.
The interment was moved to her hometown in Delta state. Earlier on Thursday, the late actress’ wake keep was held at LTV 8, Agidingbi, Ikeja and was well attended by colleagues and fellow movie makers.
Present at the solemn service were Seyi Law, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, Iyabo Ojo, Fathia Balogun, Dayo Amusa, Femi Adebayo, Desmond Elliot, Saheed Balogun, Fausat Balogun, Toyin Aimakhu, Adeniyi Johnson, Muyiwa Ademola, Yomi Fash, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Dele Odule, Kemi Afolabi, Funke Etti, Jaiye Kuti, Victor Olaotan, Ricardo Agbor, Yomi Fabiyi, Yomi Fagboyo, Adekas films and others.
Henrietta Kosoko cut her teeth in the Nigerian entertainment industry immediately when she featured in popular Yoruba movie, ‘Omolade’.
