President Muhammadu Buhari met with the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde on Wednesday, January 27.
The meeting which is related to the herdsmen crisis rocking the southwest took place at Aso Rock.
President Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina, in a brief Facebook post.
Though the presidential aide did not disclose the details of the meeting, it is believed to be related to the rising tension between Fulani herdsmen and the Yoruba people in Oyo State.
Recall that there had been unrest in Igangan, a community in Ibarapa North Local Government area in Oyo State recently witnessed violence after a popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Igboho, issued a quit notice to the Fulani herdsmen in the area.
Igboho had accused the herdsmen of being behind the criminal activities in the local community.
After the meeting with President Buhari, Governor Makinde took to Twitter to disclose the details. The Oyo state governor said he briefed President Buhari on the security situation in his state and seek collaborations required for some of his intended security plans to work effectively.
His words: “I asked for greater synergy between the state and federal security agencies. Also, I requested collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service for proper documentation of foreign nationals working in mines in the state.”
According to Governor Makinde, the president promised to look into the requests.
Meanwhile, Governor Makinde had earlier faulted the quit notice given to herders by Igboho. The governor explained that no one has the right to ask anyone else to leave any part of the country.
According to him, the common enemy of the people are hoodlums, cultists, armed robbers, kidnappers, and bandits not herders looking for pasture for their flock.
