Reggae musician, Ukeleke Onwubuya popular as Ras Kimono is dead.
He died after a brief illness on Sunday, June 10, at the age of 60.
A family source revealed to us that he was scheduled for trip to America, but complained of feeling funny after which he was taken to Ikeja Hospital, Lagos. He was subsequently referred to Lagoon Hospital in Lagos Island, where he was pronounced dead.
Since his death, their have been mixed reactions from both fans and followers.
The deceased was a rave in the music industry in the 80’s and 90’s. He preached for an improvement in the state of the nation with his music.
His hits include “We No Want”, “Natty Get Jail”, “Rhumba Style”, while he remained popular for his debut album, “Under Pressure” released in 1989 under Premiere Music Label.
A former member of a music group known as Jastix, Kimono played in the band with the likes of Majek Fashek, Amos McRoy, Jegg and Black Rice Osagie.
He won awards such as “The Nigerian Music Award”, “Fame Award”, “The Headies Award” and several others.
Details of his burial are yet to be released.
