Mudashiru Obasa, the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has said that he remains Speaker of the assembly.
Obasa stated this on Saturday at a welcome reception organised by his supporters at the Joel Ogunnaike GRA residence in Ikeja.
Speaking with journalists after addressing his supporters, Obasa, who responded to questions in relation to his impeachment on January 13, 2025, said his removal was done wrongly.
“My status in the house? I strongly believe I am still the speaker until the right thing has been done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it. I’m a Muslim and I believe in fate. But let’s do it the way it should be done,” he said.
Asked if he would seek redress in court over his impeachment, Obasa said, “You will know. It’s a matter of time. Thank you and God bless you.”
Obasa’s return to the state comes almost two weeks after 32 members of the 40-member house unanimously removed him from office over alleged fraud, gross misconduct and abuse of office.
He was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, who became the first female Speaker of the assembly.
