A new report on insecurity in Nigeria has revealed that at least 28 policemen have been killed within the space of three months.
According to the report, the victims were either shot by gunmen, hacked to death, or set ablaze by hoodlums who attacked police stations.
Those killed are different from officers who were lost to EndSARS violence in October 2020.
Meanwhile, the police said that it would do everything legally permissible to curb the attacks on its men and facilities.
This was disclosed by police spokesman Frank Mba.
According to the new report, the breakdown of the incident that led to the deaths of the policemen include
1. February 23: AK47 and machetes carrying hoodlums numbering about 200 invaded Abayi Police Station at Osisioma, Aba in Abia state and killed two officers.
2. February 24: Four policemen manning a checkpoint at Nkpologwu community in Aguata local government area of Anambra state were killed by gunmen. 3. February 24: Another policeman was killed at Ekwulobia in Anambra state and another patrol vehicle razed.
3. February 25: Gunmen killed four policemen in Calabar, the Cross River state capital.
4. February 1: Gunmen killed a policeman at Atakumosa West, Osun state.
5. February 1: Another cop was murdered at Isiala Ngwa North in Abia state.
6. February 5: There was also an attack on Obowo Police Division, leaving two policemen dead and three injured.
7. January 15: Four police officers were killed by armed bandits numbering over 100. Tragedy as four policemen are gunned down at checkpoint in Calabar
8. January 10: Three policemen were killed by armed men in Ughelli, Delta state.
9. Two policemen were murdered by suspected Boko Haram Terrorists.
10: January 23: An Assistant Superintendent (ASP) and a Corporal were killed in Aba, Abia state.
