Auwal Daudawa, the leader of the gang which kidnapped the Kankara boys in Katsina State has revealed why the operation was carried out.
According to Daudawa, the boys were kidnapped because they were dared by Governor Bello Matawalle.
Daudawa who has been described as a repentant bandit said Governor Matawalle had vowed that he will never dialogue with criminals, so it was vital for them to shock him with their capacity for violence.
The former gang leader said he led the gang that kidnapped the Kankara boy to shock Governor Matawalle
He said: “I did that in Katsina because the governor came out to say he will not dialogue again with our people. So, we said since they said they were not interested in a peace deal and they were sending military jets to torment our people and destroy what we had, we should take the battle to those who are not interested in peace.
“I did that to demonstrate that I had the capacity to do it and I was not afraid of anybody other than Allah. It was for the government, and the whole world to know that we could do it but were hitherto not interested in something like that.”
He dismissed claims that the gang received a ransom for the release of the victims and stated that whoever has a contrary position should prove it.
