In an era when kidnappers are known for demanding millions of Naira and Dollars as ransom, a kidnapper demanded for five thousand Naira recharge card as randsom for a kidnapped toddler.
In what could only be described as bewildering, a police prosecutor in Lagos State told an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 3, how a man identified as Chibuzor Elikee, allegedly kidnapped a toddler on the premises of Mountain of Fire and Prayer Ministries (MFM), Lagos.
The prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione, said the accused demanded for N1.6 million cash, and N5,000 recharge cards as ransom.
According to Uwadione, others involved in the incident of March 24 were still at large.
Though the three-year-old child, Esther Ojo, had not been found, the prosecutor said the alleged offence contravened the provisions of sections 2(ii), 3 and 6 of the Kidnapping Prohibition Laws of Lagos State, 2017.
Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo remanded Elikee at the Kirikiri Prisons, pending the outcome of legal advice from the State’s Director of Public Prosecutions, while adjourning the matter until June 10.
Elikee’s was charged to court in a four counts of kidnap, conspiracy and fraudulent obtain.
