The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has stated that it has not withdrawn from the widely discussed national protest.
According to the NLC, it can’t withdraw from a protest it didn’t organize.
A statement signed by Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, on Wednesday, July 24, noted that it is only the organisers of the speculated national protest that can decide to pull out or continue with the protest.
Ajaero also noted that the NLC has internal trade union mechanism especially leadership-decision making process that it’s industrial action such as protest pass through before such activities are undertaken.
The statement added that irrespective of the fact that the NLC is not the one organizing the protest, it doesn’t mean that the Organised Labour is oblivious of the dire living condition that Nigerians have been subjected to by the harsh policies of the Nigerian government.
Ajaero noted that the NLC stands in solidarity with Nigerians people in this hard and excruciating times, even as he called on President Bola Tinubu to invite the leaders and organizer of the protest to dialogue on their demands, adding that it would be counter productive to meet the widespread anger in the land with brute force.
