The presidential ambition of Peter Obi has come under threat with the announcement of another presidential candidate by a faction of Labour Party (LP).

Recall that the party had earlier announced Obi as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general election.

Reports emerging has however revealed that the acting national chairman of LP, Calistus Uju Okafor has announced Ambassador Jude Ezenwafor as the Presidential candidate for the party.

Obi, a former Anambra State Governor was a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, before resigning and also announcing his withdrawal from the Presidential race last month.

In a letter dated May 24, 2022 and addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, titled “Resignation from peoples democratic party (PDP) and withdrawal from the presidential contest”

Obi stated that “ It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.”

Just days after announcing his resignation from PDP, he joined LP and was announced as the party’s presidential candidate.

Speaking at the Excel Hotel and Resort, Garki 2, Abuja, Ezenwafor described the candidate as “a man of integrity.”
