SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for the Lagos State Police Command, has reacted to the apology by Stephen Abuwatsaye, the Bolt driver assaulted by House of Representatives member, Alex Ikwechegh.

Recall that Abuwatsaye was assaulted by Ikwechegh in Abuja two weeks ago for refusing to come into his house at night to drop the snails he had ordered.

An ensuing exchange saw the lawmaker using unprintable words on the driver before slapping him twice and asking security officers attached to him to detain Abuwatsaye and impound his car.

Following criticism toward Ikwechegh after Abuwatsaye released a viral video of the incident that he recorded, the Rep member apologised to the Bolt driver and his colleagues in the lower chambers.

He was subsequently referred by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, while the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun charged him to court.

However, Abuwatsaye shocked many Nigerians when he released another video last night where he tendered an unreserved apology to the lawmaker for ‘provoking’ him which resulted in their exchange of words and the lawmaker assaulting him. Abuwatsaye said he wants to forgive so that God can also forgive him as well for his trespasses.

The video has led to mixed reactions with many claiming he was forced or threatened to make the video.

Reacting to the development via his X handle, Hundeyin said that he was thankful that Abuwatsaye, did not apologize in a police station or before the case went to court.

Hundeyin said he is thankful that Abuwatsaye did not make the video in a police station, According to him, Nigerians would have dragged the police and would have attacked his person as well.
