Let Taye Currency Breath: A reply to Wale Akinremi on Fuji music

It is very funny how supposed creative people supports Taye Currency in what looks like a case of theft.

The fact that, he is from Ibadan where acts of stealing are always justified by blaming the owners makes it more funny to me.

Does this mean stealing is legal in that city….???

Anytime I read or hears about Taye Currency’s talent as a Musician, I have this feelings that people mostly celebrate mediocrity.

I don’t see any element of talent in his art except a Pasuma carbon copy.

Every Fuji musician who has made it to the top since I started following Fuji from the 80s have a unique sound, voice and identity except Currency.

It is true that Barrister copied from different genres of music to create Fuji..However, nobody could accuse him of copyright theft or plagiarism till he died.

Before Fuji, there were lots of music genres. Every music creator will go into the reservoir of music to pick different flavors to create his own recipe. That is allowed in every creative environment.

Benz was first known motor vehicle built in 1885 by Karl Benz, Co-founder of Mercedes Benz. Other auto brands like Tatra, Opel, Ford, Renault and later, Toyota, Nissan others came up. All of them produced cars with engines, gears, headlights and all used engine oils.

Can we now says because they used these features, all copied from Karl Benz…???

There are set standards and prototype in everything.

BMW cannot be accused of theft of copyright simply because it produced a car which run on fuel and engine oil just like Mercedes Benz.

However, it becomes a theft when Toyota produces a G-Wagon copied everything to the Benz logo and selling it to the African or Arab market because they always crave for luxury.

The later narrative of Toyota best describe what people call talent from Taye Currency.

He copied everything from Pasuma’s voice to lyrics, percussions, stagecraft and dressing.

That is a criminal offense. The fact that, Pasuma is not talking does not make Taye’s action right.

Barrister Wale Akinremi who recently rose in defense of currency should know better as a legal practitioner. There is what they call intellectual theft in law.

Supporting Taye Currency is simply encouraging intellectual theft.
