A video on social media in which a man claimed that some armed herdsmen sacked some villages has caused anxiety in Oyo State.
According to the unnamed man in the video, the police and Governor Seyi Makinde have been keeping quiet while villagers are killed by herdsmen.
The man claimed the incident happened at Ayete in Ibarapa area of Oyo state, adding that the government turned a deaf ear to cries of the traditional ruler.
It was gathered that the video caused disquiet among members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, February 7, after the video was uploaded on a WhatsApp group set up by the party’s state spokesman, Akeem Olatunji.
The video allegedly elicited an angry reaction from Governor Makinde who is also said to be in the WhatsApp group.
He allegedly noted that not every claim by just anybody should be treated to attract government’s reaction and attention.
The governor also advised that the WhatsApp group should be properly moderated and exited it afterward. It was reported that some party members berated the governor for reacting angrily and leaving the group.
Speaking on the heels of the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Taiwo Adisa, has warned against false security alarm in the form of fake audio and video posts on social media.
He warned the citizens against raising false alarm on the security situation in Ibarapa land and parts of Oke-Ogun zone. Adisa equally warned purveyors of fake information to desist from such act so as not to plunge the state into crisis.
