The dispute between the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Olugbo of Ugbo land, Oba Frederick Akinruntan is now almost a legend.
Overtime, the duo have disagreed over the true representation of Moremi with the two monarchs telling different tales about the woman.
While Moremi represents a heroine to the Ooni of Ife, she is a symbol of betrayal as far as the Olugbo is concerned.
Yomi Akinruntan, the son of the Olugbo of Ugbo took the controversy to another level recently when he commissioned an artist to create a statue of Moremi on her knees, as if pleading for forgiveness of her sins. While many hold the impression that the statue was done by the Olugbo of Ugbo, it was really the handiwork of his son, Yomi.
