Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested six senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over an alleged N6bn fraud.
The arrest follows an order from Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant General, who directed the handover of the officers to the EFCC for interrogation.
Their release of the personnel to EFCC follows an initial letter by Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the EFCC to the NSCDC Commandant General, requesting the release of the implicated officers for questioning.
Subsequently, the officers were transferred to the EFCC’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, where they are being grilled, according to Punch.
“Six senior NSCDC officers are currently in our custody. They’re being grilled by our investigators over alleged fraudulent activities running into over N6bn,” a source told the publication.
Babawale Afolabi, spokesperson of the NSCDC has however denied knowledge of the probe.
