The last has not been heard about the scores of people who died during the recruitment test organised at the weekend by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), as Minister of Interior, Abba Moro is said to be currently trying to bribe a clique of journalist with N500,000 in return for a positive media image.
A minimum of 23 people died during stampedes at test venues across the country, as 520,000 applicants turned up for aptitude tests for just 4,556 vacant positions.
But Moro then incurred public wrath when he blamed the impatience of the applicants for the deaths.
“The applicants lost their lives due to impatience; they did not follow the laid-down procedures spelt out to them before the exercise”, he had said.
“Many of them jumped through the fences of affected centres and did not conduct themselves in an orderly manner to make the exercise a smooth one. This caused stampede and made the environment unsecured”.
The utterance triggered calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for his resignation or sack by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Moro, who also received a query from the president, has now moved to improve his tattered media image.
“Minister of Interior, Abba Moro recently meet with journalists to burnish his image.
The meeting took place at Nugget Hotel, behind Chisco Transport Company, Utako, Abuja.
