The late Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi is to be honoured posthumously by the organisers of the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award scheduled to hold in September, 2019.

It would be recalled that the late Owolabi, 23 was killed with a stray bullet in the clash between members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria otherwise known as Shi’ite and the police in Abuja, the country’s capital.

Speaking on why the late reporter was shortlisted, the award’s media and publicity manager, Mr. Murphy Ajibade Alabi said that the late youth corps member died a hero while carrying out his official assignment.

He stated further that, “We don’t need to be told how and what killed the young reporter. He died in the course of his duty. He died in the profession he was trained for which is journalism.

However, it was unfortunate that he paid the supreme price by losing his life on the job he had passion for. For us, this shows he was fearlessness in carrying out the noble profession.”

“Through the award, in the last 13 years, we recognize the good work of journalists; Owolabi is not an exception for he was a member of the fourth estate of the realm and that is why we acknowledge his braveness even though it was a very painful death.

In view of this, he would be honoured posthumously on the day of the event. Precious death brings to memory the death of Chris Imodibe and Tayo Awotusin who were killed by men of Charles Taylor while covering the Liberian civil war in 1990″ Alabi concluded.
