Launching in Nigeria is usually accompanied with fun fair and show of money, and it is usually the pride of organisers of such launching when the players are in mood to prove to one another who’s wealthier.
Like the typical launch, Nigerian entertainers have also adopted this pattern, as they are in the process of proving to their fans how wealthy they are when they recently tried to raise funds for their ailing colleague, OJB Jezzrel.
From 2face to P-square, the difference in the way and manner the entertainers have turn the fund raising of OJB into a fiasco is indeed a shame.
It is disappointing that the likes of D’banj , Ini Edo, Ice Prince et al are yet to drop one naira for OJB, even as funny allegations have been flying around that large sums of money have been paid into their account.
Though the likes of P-Square and Iyanya have donated some money to the musician, though sources claim P-Sqaure who was initially thought to have donated an amount in excess of 5m actually drop an amount less than 1m naira towards the treatment of the producer who produced the award winning African Queen song.
As speculation continues on how much has been raised for the ailing musician and producer who was responsible for identifying the talent in award winning music star Wiz Kid, Nigerians have been thrown into confusion as to the real state of things especially as the question being asked is if Nigerian artistes are using OJB’s condition to get undue publicity.
The difference with the scenario currently playing itself about the way musicians are using the OJB sickness and normal launching in the secular world is that no party was thrown just for the sake of raising the fun needed for the treatment of the musician.
