Nigerians have reacted to the announcement of a new price to acquire the country’s international passport.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Wednesday night, August 21, released a statement announcing an upward review in the price of passport printing.

According to the statement, a 32-page Passport booklet with 5 year validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) only; while a 64-page Passport booklet with 10 year validity which was Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00) will be One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) only. The statement added that the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora.

Since the development, Nigerians have taken to social media to react.

Ibukun Aluko who reacted to the development said “Omo make una pity us na.”

On his part, EJ said that “The 10-day notice for thepassport price increase is an example of the government’s lack of empathy and consideration for its citizens. @officialBAT and @nigimmigration should obviously know this.

“I recommend reviewing the pricing strategy and considering a reversal or,at the very least, a delayed effective date of January 1, 2025.”
BigTee wrote, “This is not fair! Why are things expensive in this country.” On her part, Courtney wrote, “Anything to make it harder for Nigerians to leave. Its giving, “we die here.”
