The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has announced the successful containment of a fire outbreak on the dry crude storage barge BESTAF5 at Cawthorne Channel 1, Rivers State.

NNPC Ltd disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
According to Soneye, the fire which started at approximately 14:10 hours on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, spread to other barges, but was swiftly contained by NNPC’L’s emergency teams and industry partners.
Soneye who noted that NNPC Ltd. prioritizes safety and remains fully committed to environmental protection and operational integrity, stated that the incident did not impact flow station operations nor did it lead to any casualties, adding that all personnel are safe.
