The former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly and the Imo North senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC, in the March 28 senatorial election, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, has told the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Owerri, that the senatorial election did not hold in Ehime Mbano and parts of Isiala Mbano local government area.
Uwajumogu, who was led by his counsel Barr Okey Ehieze, in his evidence in chief, said his agents and the Ehime Mbano/ part of Isiala Mbano eligible voters are still at lost, on how the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, generated results that was allocated to the candidates, that participated in the election.
While stating that tugs that where alleged to be PDP members disrupted and carted away election material meant for some polling units in Isiala Mbano and Okigwe local government area, wondered how the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, who at the conclusion of Presidential and House of Representatives elections, openly acknowledged and apologized to Ehime Mbano electorates for the commissions mistake in providing the Imo East Senatorial election ballot papers in-place of the Imo North senatorial elections ballot papers, which was customized for the conduct of Imo East Senatorial elections, could have successfully conducted the Senatorial elections
Adding that the INEC Electoral Officer was captured on tape between 5pm to 6pm on the day of election, explaining and promising to conduct the Ehime Mbano elections the next day.
He tendered some documents, which includes, specimen of ballot papers, result sheets and total number of Ehime Mbano voters which were accepted as exhibits by the tribunal.
Speaking to reporters at the end of his evidence, he expressed confidence that the tribunal, as the last hope of the common man, would deliver justice to Okigwe people.
He said, justice on the matter, would provide an opportunity for Okigwe people, to cast their votes to the candidates of their choice, as well as, elect their preferred representative who will give them quality representation in the senate.
