There are speculations that Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State is set to defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
This situation has seen prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including governors and senators visiting him to stop the move.
According to a report, six PDP governors and other chieftains of the PDP met with Governor Matawalle in Gusau, the state capital, on Wednesday, April 7.
The governors in attendance were: Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa).
They were all led to the northern state by the governor of Sokoto, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Governor Tambuwal announced the donation of N100 million from the PDP Governors Forum to the victims of Gusau market fire.
He alleged that the recent visit to Zamfara by some governors on the platform of the APC was political. Tambuwal took a swipe at the party and its governors for allegedly taking advantage of people’s misfortunes in the state to play politics.
The Sokoto governor asked the APC-led government to concentrate its energy on ending insecurity and poverty in the country.
Three APC governors had visited Matawalle on Monday, April 5, for the commissioning of some buildings. The governors also donated N50 million to victims of Gusau market fire after holding talks with Matawalle. However, Governor Tambuwal said the PDP cannot be intimidated by the APC’s federal might, saying Zamfara remains a PDP state.
In his response, Governor Matawalle said since the PDP was in the state to tender their apology, the apology is accepted.
