There are indications that the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa is set to return to office.

According to a top All Progressive Congress (APC) leader in Lagos State, it has been agreed at the top echelon of the party that Obasa’s impeachment as Speaker was illegal.

www.theoctopusnews.com, reports that Obasa was impeached on January 13, 2025.

The source who spoke in confidence added that it was also agreed that it is only logical that Obasa returns to office having been impeached illegally.

He revealed that over the weekend, a high-powered meeting was convened by key APC members, including former National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Osun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, ex-Commissioner for Justice Dr. Muiz Banire, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and lawmakers. During the meeting, a resolution was reportedly reached stating that Obasa’s removal was illegal and that the Assembly should reinstate him.

Furthermore, the source added that it is to this end that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, restored Obasa’s security details after withdrawing that of the current speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.

Security details assigned to the Lagos State House of Assembly were also withdrawn with immediate effect.

The House was said to have been in recession when it was hurriedly reconvened with Obasa impeached as Speaker and Meranda sworn in as the new Speaker.

However, in the wake of Obasa’s return to the office, his suit and a cache of arms found in the office of the former Speaker came rumours of Meranda’s resignation as Speaker, a speculation she later trashed.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear when the House will reconvene to make the change official, especially with Meranda having adjourned plenary indefinitely two weeks ago following an invasion of the Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

On his part, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Meranda on Media, Ganzallo Victor, has raised concerns over the withdrawal of the security details attached to the House and the Speaker, warning that both are now vulnerable.
