A factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Bashir Apapa, has alleged that the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, is plotting to install his wife as the National Women Leader of the party.
He also added that Ob is not qualified to lead the country.
Stating that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held in Asaba was illegal,
Apapa claimed that Obi’s presence at the meeting showed that he was a party to disobeying a court order that sacked Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman.
Laying three allegations against Obi, the faction noted that Obi wants to destroy the LP structure of the party where he contested the 2023 presidential election.
The faction claimed that he aimed to ensure that people from his tribe dominated the party and that his wife be installed as the women leader of the party.
The statement reads in part: “Peter Obi’s mission was to amputate the Labour party structure so that he and his gang of ethnic bigots would take over the party and fix his wife as the new national women leader of the party to continue his trade.”
Apapa’s faction of the LP also alleged that Obi’s nomination as the party’s presidential candidate did not follow due process. The faction said his improper nomination was pointed out to him, but Obi launched a mission to ensure that all those perceived to be against him were removed from the party.
Further, the Labour Party’s faction claimed that the presidential flagbearer disobeyed an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja by identifying with the sacked national leader, Julius Abure.
Thus, the faction then resolved that the former governor of Anambra State did not qualify to be Nigeria’s president following his action.
Meanwhile, Obi had been earlier quoted to have said that humans are bound to make mistakes, and he would never intentionally break the law. Although Obi did not reveal what led to his veiled statement, he reiterated his commitment to fighting for a new Nigeria.
