For three hour last weekend, members of the 1984 set of the Nigerian Law School gathered at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja to celebrate and “catch up” on old times since they left the school 29 years ago.
Members of the set are among the high and mighty in all spheres of national life including state chief judges, a governor in the person of Shehu Shema of Katsina State, administrators in the mould of Tahir Mamman, Director General of the Nigerian Law School, and top lawyers like Dafe Akpedeye (SAN).
They also include lawmakers, Senator Effiong Bob and Emmanuel Jime, chairman House Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, who was the host. Even the military was not left out as Mutari Bello, a major general in the Nigerian Army was also celebrated.
Prominent in the celebrating set is the former first lady of Cross River State, Onari Duke, who handed over awards to prominent members for their life-time achievements.
Amidst jokes and back slapping, the head-boy of the class, Tahir Mamman, noted that the group came together to celebrate themselves and reminisce on their experience in the law school and how it has shaped their lives in various fields.
While congratulating members for their achievements, he said the country’s legal system has greatly evolved since they left the law school.
Jime, on his part, said the event was done to create a bond and get to “know ourselves better than we may have 29 years ago. We have this opportunity so that we can look out for each other and assess where each one is.
