The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has claimed that governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State begged to join the party in 2007 and 2012.
This allegation was made on Wednesday in a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Olisa Metuh, while reacting to earlier claims by Oshiomhole that the PDP is a party of rogues.
Metuh said Oshiomhole, a member of the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, would have become a member of the PDP if the party hadn’t several turned him down when the governor came begging.
He urged Oshiomhole to be “bold enough to tell Nigerians how many times he begged to join the PDP but was turned down.”
Metuh stated that, “In 2007, Adams (Oshiomhole) begged to be given an opportunity under the Umbrella (PDP) but we considered his governorship aspiration an assault on the existing zoning formula in the state and quietly turned him down.”
Revealing further, the party spokesman explained that, “again in 2012, Adams once more came cap in hand and our great Party again rejected him.”
“Is Adams just realizing how bad our party is and was all the while begging for membership,” he asked.
Metuh disclosed that, “it is very needful to remind him (Oshiomhole)that corruption is home to the states under the ACN.”
