Ikota slum, a settlement in Ajah, Lagos state was demolished by unknown persons on Friday, November 16.
Considered a shanty, the unknown gunmen stormed the community and carried out demolition.
The demolition started at about 9am, as inhabitants of the shanty were ordered to vacate their homes as they have been marked for demolition.
Prior to today’s demolition, the residents of the shanty had been earlier informed of a planned demolition.
A team of people were said to have ordered them to vacate the place as it had been marked for demolition. The notification was said to have been given in early November.
Bulldozers moved into the community and started demolishing every structure in sight leaving two people reportedly dead, as a result of shock from the demolition.
The Ikota slum which is one of many in the Lekki axis of Lagos state is an eyesore, as residents wade through knee-deep dirty water to leave their homes every day.
Asides this, some of the houses is the slum have been submerged in water, as resident battle all sorts of infections.
