Polaris Bank Limited has assured media practitioners of better support.
The commitment was made by Nduneche Ezurike, Group Head – Brand and Marketing Communications at Polaris Bank Nigeria.
Speaking at the first phase of a capacity-building training session organised by Polaris Bank Limited for journalists Wednesday, June 14, Ezurike reiterated the Bank’s commitment to supporting the fourth pillar of the government, adding that the workshop is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“Capacity building is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Polaris Bank Limited. We believe that your job is very tough, most of the constraints you face, we know, the economy might have pushed us slightly, and it is not easy to know the business model behind the news, online news blog, or the media itself. It is always a tough one.
“From the success we have achieved from this training, I want to assure you that we will do more and make sure that it cuts across board.
“There are a lot of debates regarding the probability that journalists appreciate capacity building, but this workshop has debunked it, I don’t need any other evidence to debunk that,” Ezurike said.
Noting that sensationalism in the writer’s perspective can be very sweet, he urged media practitioners to always give Polaris Bank a benefit of the doubt, adding that it is very important.
“Everybody here has a family or relation in the banking industry, so we need to start looking not necessarily at the legal, but at the moral framework. It is important to give the Bank the benefit of the doubt. We believe that moving on from today, we will have a better relationship, and we will try as much as possible to do more to support the industry.
“So, it’s a renewed commitment to capacity building. We intend to do the next session, maybe something about Virtual Newsroom to encourage those who are also running the online business to begin to understand the restructure and intermediation that has taken place in that space, how to be efficient, how to be effective, and also how to speak to market because you need to manage your cost,” he concluded.
The workshop which was held in two sessions had revered media practitioner, and Corporate Affairs guru, Dr. Akin Olaniyan as the first speaker and Sheriff Adekoya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Edge Forth Business Solution as the second speaker. While Dr. Olaniyan, dwelled on financial reporting in a distressed economy, identifying and analyzing the indices mitigating professional and social developmental reportage, Adekoya, focused on Strategic Media Intelligence, Connecting the AD Narrative In Media Practice, while buttressing the need for strategic and specific writing by journalists.
