President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his opinion about endorsing candidates for political posts.

The president stated this ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

While speaking, Buhari stated that political aspirants will no longer be endorsed from Abuja.

The president spoke on Saturday, January 30, after revalidating his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his constituency in Daura, Katsina state.

The president’s position contrast the informal tradition of the occupant of the presidential villa endorsing or influencing the choice of political aspirants in party primary elections.

Buhari also released a brief statement via his Twitter handle reiterating his position on the endorsement of political aspirants.

The president expressed appreciation to his party, the APC, for “choosing a bottom-up process of registration”.

He said the party’s style and structure should be from the ward level upwards, and not from downwards.

His tweet reads: “Today in Daura, I participated in the membership registration and revalidation exercise of our great party, @OfficialAPCNg.

“All good people must get involved in the task of nation-building and improving their society. Register for your party, and register to vote.

“I thank our Party for choosing a bottom-up process of registration.

“Our party style and structure should no longer be Abuja downwards, but from the ward level upwards. So that people can defend the party and its policies even at every level.”
