The Lagos State House of Assembly remains embroiled in political turmoil as Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa reportedly held a closed-door meeting with lawmakers today at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja. While initial reports claimed it was a reconciliatory session aimed at easing tensions and uniting aggrieved lawmakers, fresh insider information suggests otherwise.

Sources within the Assembly revealed that the meeting, which commenced at 2:10 PM, was far from a reconciliation effort. Instead, Obasa allegedly issued directives rather than fostering dialogue, reinforcing concerns about his authoritarian leadership style. Critics argued that his arrogance and unwillingness to change have been a major source of division within the legislative arm of government.

Despite speculations that Obasa might resign following his controversial reinstatement, Lagosians are watching closely to see if any such action will take place. An unconfirmed report suggests that the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) had resolved that Mojisola Meranda should resign, allowing Obasa to return as Speaker, only for him to step down immediately, paving the way for the emergence of a new leader.

The deepening crisis had attracted the intervention of APC leadership at both state and national levels, with key figures such as Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Segun Osoba working behind the scenes to restore order. President Bola Tinubu also reportedly stepped in, as the rift within the Assembly threatened the party’s stability in Lagos.

However, the GAC’s resolution suggests a more strategic political maneuver, one that would see Obasa reinstated only to step down in favor of a fresh, untainted leadership. If this plan is followed, it could signal a major shift in the power dynamics of the Assembly, possibly ending Obasa’s long-standing dominance.

With the current developments, all eyes are on Obasa to see if he will honor the APC leadership’s resolution or attempt to hold onto power. Given his history of political survival tactics, many lawmakers remain skeptical of his willingness to relinquish his seat.

For now, uncertainty looms over the Lagos State House of Assembly, as political watchers anticipate the next move in what has become one of the most contentious power struggles in the state’s legislative history.
