President Tinubu Approves Obasa’s Removal As Lagos Assembly Speaker

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his nod to the removal of the erstwhile Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,, Honourable Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Tinubu gave his approval at a meeting in Aso Villa, Abuja, after an initial reluctance.

The President seal was given to Obasa’s removal when Tinubu met with the new leadership of the House led by the Speaker, Rt Honourable Mojisola Lasbat Meranda on Wednesday, 22 January, 2025.

The meeting was attended by prominent members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC): its Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi; Secretary, Mutiu Are; Chairman of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; Lagos West Senatorial District Apex Leader, Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa; Leaders from Lagos East Senatorial District: Alhaji Busura Alebiosu and Alhaji Bamu; and former state Chairman of APC, Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale among others.

At the meeting, the President who was initially reluctant to bless Obasa’s removal was convicted after the he was presented with alleged excesses of the former Speaker.

The new Speaker, we were informed assured the President of her readiness to work seamlessly with other arms of government to ensure that the Lagosians enjoy full dividends of democracy.
