Prominent Nigerians including President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be the first set of people to take the COVID vaccine on live television.
Others who will also get the vaccine on a priority level are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
This was revealed by the Executive Director/CEO, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, on Monday at the joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
These individuals are expected to receive the first dose of the vaccine on Saturday, March 6.
Four million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in the country from India on Tuesday, Tuesday, 2.
Shuaib had, on January 7, said Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo, the SGF, and other prominent Nigerians will be among the first set of Nigerians to receive the vaccine.
According to him, this is to help drive awareness on the virus and the vaccine administration in the country when it finally arrives.
Shuaib urged Nigerians not to be hesitant about the vaccines when they arrive.
Recall that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had approved the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for use in Nigeria.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, made the announcement on Thursday, February 18, a position confirmed by President Buhari’s new media aide, Bashir Ahmad on Twitter.
