Governor Godwin Obaseki has been urged to resign from office immediately.
The call was made by the Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party in a statement on Sunday, December 20, said it had good reasons to demand the governor to step down.
Chairman of the Edo APC caretaker committee, David Imuse, argued that one of the grounds for making the demand was because Obaseki lacked ideas on how to govern the state.
Imuse also accused the governor of failing to uphold his oath of office to protect the life and property of Edo citizens.
He said: “No one is safe in Edo. The state is under siege. We have a governor who has lost focus. Fear and insecurity have become the order of the day, yet the governor takes N700 million monthly as security vote. And, so far, he has not been able to deploy this huge amount to mobilise the security agencies in the state to fight criminality.”
The party further claimed that Obaseki has plunged the state into more indebtedness with his recent borrowing of N25 billion from the capital market.
Obaseki is also accused of disregarding the rule of law by refusing to obey court orders.
