Protesters protesting over naira scarcity in the country have blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Mowe/Ibafo axis of Ogun State.
Armed with sticks and other weapons, the protesters took over the road in the early hours of Friday, barricading the expressway, leading to heavy gridlock on both carriage ways.
The situation has reportedly left hundreds of motorists stranded.
Recall that hoodlums had on Friday morning stormed major roads in Mile-12, Ketu and Ojota areas, along Ikorodu Road, and Iyana-Ipaja.
Motorists and residents who were on their way to work hurriedly turned back in panic as the rioters set bonfires on the road.
Confirming the situation, the spokesman of the Police Command in Lagos said:
“It is true. Our men are there. Reinforcement units have been deployed. Stay safe out there as we closely monitor and manage the situation.”
