A former chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.
He declared his interest to run during an interview on Sunday, January 31.
According to Ohuabunwa, his decision to contest the 2023 presidential race is to provide the needed leadership that could help transform Nigeria, instead of offering advice from the background.
The 70-year-old went on to note that he is not coming for fun or to seek popularity.
Ohuabunwa’s declaration is coming amid calls made by various groups, prominent Nigerians that the next president should be from the southeastern part of the country.
Recall that the former chairman of NESG had recently asked all lovers of equity and justice to rally round the Igbo to ensure that they produce the next president after Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Ohuabunwa described those who are opposed to a president of Igbo extraction in 2023 as selfish individuals, who only want to cause confusion and create a greater division, enmity, and unhappiness.
He said that for equity, justice and fairness, the next president of Nigeria in 2023 should come from the southeast geopolitical zone.
