Robert De Niro has delivered a withering take down of the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, which concluded with him declaring, “I’d like to punch him in the face.”
“I mean he is so blatantly stupid,” De Niro said of Trump. “He’s a punk, a dog, he’s a pig. Colin Powell [the former US secretary of state under George W. Bush] said it best: he’s a national disaster. He’s an embarrassment to this country.”
“It makes me so angry this country has gotten to this point that this fool, this bozo, has wound up where he has. He talks how he’d like to punch people in the face? … Well, I’d like to punch him in the face.”
Now that’s a fight that I think we could all get behind. Especially since Robert De Niro famously got into such superb shape for his performance as Jake La Motta in ‘Raging Bull’ that he actually fought as a middleweight boxer and won two of his three fights. He also won the Best Actor Academy Award, too.
The Oscar winning actor made his candid remarks as part of Vice Exclusives’ video series encouraging people to vote, and even though it was supposed to be non-partisan he just couldn’t resist revealing his true feelings on Trump, who is competing against Democrat Hillary Clinton for the White House.
After being asked before recording, “What do you care about?,” De Niro said of Trump, “This is somebody that we want for president? I don’t think so.”
“What I care about is the direction of this country and what I’m very, very worried about is that it might go in the wrong direction with someone like Donald Trump. If you care about your future, vote for it.”
