Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has reacted to a bribe allegation trailing him.
Recall that Lawan had been alleged of collection N2 Billion bribe to hasten the re-appointment of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued on Thursday, November 19, by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi, to a report by an online medium, the Senate President denied the allegation.
The report about the Senate President collecting a bribe alleged that a group led by the Senate president collected N2 billion from Yakubu to facilitate the confirmation of his reappointment by President Muhammadu Buhari for another five-year tenure.
Lawan however noted that the publication failed to provide the names of members of the fictitious group and where the group operated from. He enjoined Nigerians to ignore the report as another incident of hallucination by the comical characters operating the fabricated news platform.
Meanwhile, Yakubu has explained lifted the lids on why he handed over to Muazu Ahmed despite his reappointment by President Buhari.
According to him, he stepped aside as INEC boss because it will be “inappropriate” to stay in office after the expiration of his tenure.
