Senator Bukola Saraki has been elected as the President of the Senate.
Senators consisting of a minority of the All Progressives Congress and those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were present during the election.
The election was presided over by the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Senator Saraki was elected by a group of renegade senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress in a revolt against the party hierarchy’s idea of a consensus party. His election was witnessed by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano State, Dino Melaye, Shabba Lafiagi and Sanni Yerima Bakura Meanwhile, former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP was also re-elected.
