A human rights lawyer, Malcolm Omorhrihobo, has said that Seun Kuti risks being sent to jail for three years.
According to him, if charged under Section 98 of the Police Act and Section 356 of the Criminal Code, which is operational in the South-West, and found guilty of the offence, the Grammy Award nominee would get a three years jail sentence.
He noted that “If the police are able to prove their case in court, he is liable to be sentenced to three years’ jail term if convicted of the offense.”
Section 356 of the Criminal Code Act reads, “Anyone who assaults, resists, or willfully obstructs a police officer while acting in the execution of his duty, or any person acting in aid of a police officer while so acting is guilty of felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.”
Kuti had been spotted in a video shoving a policeman before eventually slapping on Third Mainland Bridge.
Though the musician remains elusive from operatives of the Lagos State Police Command who have been ordered by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba to arrest him, he has since posted on his Instagram page that the policeman made an attempt on his life and those of his family members.
He also added that he had a lot of evidence to prove his case. The singer has also announced human rights lawyer, Femi Falana as his lawyer.
On his part, Falana has said Kuti will turn himself in today, Monday, May 15.
