Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the former governor of Ogun State has revealed that he spent three and half years in his mother’s womb.
He made the pronouncement at the 25th remembrance ceremony for his late mother, Rafatu Sanusi-Amosun.
According to him, he was carried in his mother’s womb for three and a half years, adding that his birth was a “miracle”.
He revealed that people struggled to believe he was human when he was finally born after such an extended gestation.
At the event held at Amosun:s family residence in Abeokuta, he emphasized the importance of honoring one’s parents even after their passing, a value he said is upheld by both the Quran and the Bible. Reflecting on his unusual birth, he shared, “My father, who wasn’t around at the time, had arranged for fuel to burn my body if I didn’t survive.” This rare occurrence led his father to give him the name Duro-o-rike, meaning “Stay and be given the best of care.”
Amosun’s elder brother, Abidoye Amosun, corroborated the story, recalling how their father had sent a naming gift and letter with names for the newborn three days before the naming ceremony.
Reflecting on life’s transience, Amosun called for prayers for his late mother and all departed souls. The remembrance gathering saw Islamic leaders from Egbaland and beyond, former aides, and family members in attendance.
