A new voice has joined the clarion call on climate change, which has attracted a global concern. The new voice is of the Society of Landscape Architecture Students of Nigeria (SLASON).
SLASON joined the call via its Landscape Advocacy Programme, a campaign and competition expected to run between January and October 2015.
The society’s plans were revealed at a press conference, which held inside the Conference Centre of the University of Lagos Guest House on Monday, March 16, 2015.
The event, organized by SLASON and sponsored by Sterling Bank of Nigeria Plc, attracted landscape enthusiast such as Dr Cosmos Maduka, Arabella, Dr M.B.O Adegbile H.O.D Architecture Department, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State among others.
SLASON, in its bid to create adequate awareness on climate change, has singed up several ambassadors in the categories of Toddler Landscape Ambassadors (TLAs), Junior Landscape Ambassadors (JLAs), Senior Landscape Ambassadors (SLAs), Undergraduate Landscape Ambassadors (ULAs), Master Landscape Ambassadors (MLAs) and Volunteer Landscape Enthusiasts (VLEs) in prominent Primary Schools, Junior Secondary Schools, Senior Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions and Local Community Volunteers respectively.
Some of the other projects which SLASON has also embarked on include Landscape Advocacy Programmes, Projects, Competitions and Campaigns. Hence, they are absorbing and harnessing the worlds take on the pertinent climate change and global warming issues, to better equip them to carry out their various landscape advocacy.
Speaking during an interview with www.theoctopusnews.com, Project Coordinator, Mr Gbogboade Seun Opeyemi said, “The world is running out of time to solve this global issue, and at this point, we need to decide whether everyone will work or move forward together to tackle this issue or we will all split apart, whether we like being forced or we take action ourselves. The time for talk is over and this is the time for action. Everybody needs to be involve to save the earth. Enough of us directing all the blames to fossil companies. Let us petition ourselves to mitigate this issue because we are all a part of global warming.”
