“History is a gallery of pictures in which there are few originals and many copies”
Many would have alienated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State from the above saying prior to his dumping of the “Your Excellency” title.
However, since his pronouncement, a lot of people have associated him with the quote by French Alexis de Tocqueville.
Not known to have scored any major first since commencing his government, the first citizen of Lagos State opted to play to the gallery, hoping to paint the image of a humble man.
Forgetting that nothing embarrasses a man like playing to the gallery, the governor celebrated his dumping of the “Your Excellency” title peculiar with governors for “Mr. Governor”, adding that only people who had finished their job were deserving of the first title. A wrong move, the governor has not only come under serious criticism but has been mocked in some quarters.
