Telcos: Nigerians Lament As New Tariff Hit Hard

Nigerians are lamenting the new telco tariff approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Many woke up today, Tuesday, February 11, to the new increased rates.

According to feedbacks from conversations on X, a 15GB data bundle which used to be available for N2,000 now sells for N6,000.

This has formed another point of lamentation, as Nigerians decry the ever worsening  economic situation.

It would be recalled that in January 2025, the NCC approved a request for tariff adjustment by operators after telcos’ agitation for cost-reflective prices in the face of harsh economic conditions.

The NCC capped the increase at a maximum of 50 per cent of the current tariffs, though lower than the over 100 per cent requested by some network operators.

However, the current increase being experienced by users shows that the increase might have exceeded 50 per cent.
